DR. N. KRISHNA KUMAR IFS



Dr. N Krishna Kumar IFS (Rtd.) is basically a Zoologist. With the incessant interests in wildlife he started his service for conserving, managing and protecting wildlife for 36 years uptil now, in different organizations and institutions. He undertook research activities in the Forest Department, during which specialized on forest genetic resources and documented floristic elements of sholas in Nilgiris, prepared plans for improvement of watersheds, took up urban forestry initiatives and implementation of Western Ghats development program. Amidst 36 years of wildlife experience, he was involved in eight years of wildlife management and research. The major activities include management one of the largest zoos in the country ‘Arignar Anna Zoological Park’ in vandalur, wherein he set up the butterfly conservation center and park, establish and maintain rescue and rehabilitation centre for animals from circus, initiated for the first time zoo classrooms, zoo education programs, zoo veterinary research and strengthened ex-situ conservation research. He is currently functioning as the Director, Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding (IFGTB).
